The Power of Purple (POP) was started in 2013 as a fundraiser for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by a group of dancers that danced professionally for Milwaukee's Major League Baseball team. These dancers were largely active in charitable events and rallied around a teammate who had lost her grandmother and mother just 6 months apart from pancreatic cancer. The event brought together teams from around the state to debut their routines for competition season, compete, but more importantly to be a part of a fundraising event for an incredible cause. The first year the event raised over $10,000. POP was held locally at a few different high schools and universities over the years and included different added features that raised additional funds (including a run/walk, holiday fairs, solo and ensemble competitions, photo booths, face painting and so much more). In one record year, we raised $30,000 in this single day event!!! Since it began, we have been able to see the 5 year survival rate change from 5% - today 11%.
Through POP to date we have raised over $150,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and we're not done!!!!
This event was started by a local non profit, The Elevate Community, who executed numerous charity events in the area. And today we are excited to have it continuing on in our community with the support and direction of Lake Country Dance, a local dance studio that focuses on community.
